James Tudball is an Australian violinist whose work spans performance, education, and cultural leadership. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with Jack Liebeck, he completed his Master of Arts in Violin Performance as a Ramsay Postgraduate Scholar and was awarded the LRAM in Pedagogy with Distinction. James completed his undergraduate studies in Brisbane at the Queensland Conservatorium before continuing his training in Belgrade, Serbia.
James has performed widely across Australia, the UK, and Europe, working with leading ensembles including Opera Australia, Opera Queensland, Ensemble Q and the London Music Theatre Orchestra, and has collaborated and toured with conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, John Wilson, Elim Chan, and Ryan Wigglesworth. Winner of the 4MBS Chamber Music Prize, James has performed as an Artist in Residence for the New York Metropolitan Museum’s ‘European Masterpieces’ exhibition and at the centenary commemoration service of WWI in France in the presence of King Charles III.
Deeply committed to widening access to music, James has taken part in outreach initiatives at children’s hospitals and throughout schools in Australia. He has presented as a pre-concert speaker for the Australian Chamber Orchestra and advocated for music education in the UK House of Lords.
James currently teaches undergraduate violin students as a faculty member at King’s College London. His contributions to the arts led to his appointment to the Board of the European String Teachers Association (ESTA UK), where he was later elected Vice Chair. He currently serves as Assistant Music Schools Manager at Eton College, Windsor.
In 2025, James was awarded the historic Freedom of the City of London in recognition of his cultural impact as a City Scholar. Beyond music, he raised funds for Children with Cancer UK in the 2025 London Marathon and has participated in international forums including a political colloquium in Monaco with the Assistant Secretary-General to the Commonwealth and a Shakespeare colloquium
at Cumberland Lodge with the Head of the Royal Shakespeare Company. James continues to build a dynamic artistic career in London, committed to performance of the highest calibre and to expanding musical accessibility through education, outreach, and emerging technologies.
